Discover the beauty of combining watercolor and encaustic painting in this inspiring hands-on workshop led by artist and educator Carolyn Childs.

The workshop begins with guided watercolor painting, where participants will create their own imagery and explore color, composition, and creative expression. Students are also welcome to bring photographs or reference images to inspire their work.

In the second portion of the class, you'll learn the captivating art of encaustic painting—an ancient medium made from pure beeswax, resin, and pigment. Using heated tools and translucent layers of wax, you'll transform your watercolor paintings into richly textured mixed-media artworks filled with depth, luminosity, and dimension.

Participants will explore a variety of encaustic techniques using a hot iron and other heated tools while learning how to layer wax over watercolor to create unique and expressive pieces. You'll have the opportunity to create multiple small works, and one finished piece can be displayed in a Lucite frame, included with the class.

This workshop is designed for both beginners and experienced artists. Step into a warm, supportive creative space, relax into the process, and experience the magic of painting with wax. Whether you're looking to learn a new medium, deepen your artistic practice, or simply enjoy a restorative creative escape, this workshop offers a unique and rewarding experience.
